Our Organization

Our mission is to prevent cruelty to animals and to promote respect and compassion for all animals through education.  To provide quality homes for cats and dogs through our adoption programs. To reduce euthanasia by saving pets from going to animal control and pulling pets from animal control when resources permit.  To provide shelter and care for homeless and unwanted animals, reduce pet overpopulation through spay/neuter and TNR (Trap Neuter Return) of feral cats, and reunite lost animals with their owners.

We are an all-volunteer organization.  We do not receive any federal, state or city funding.  All of our support comes from concerned and involved individuals like you that share our compassion and love for homeless cats and dogs.  Precious Pets Almost Home Association is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.  All donations are fully tax-deductible.

Volunteer Application
  • CAT CARE

Feed and care for our feline population and maintain the cleanliness of our adoption showcase center. Give personalized time and attention to each cat. Interact with the public in order to encourage pet adoption, generate new volunteers, and promote awareness of our rescue and its mission. You can volunteer at our adoption center (Pet Supplies Plus 3757 N Lincoln Ave).  Hours are VERY flexible and tailored to your schedule.  If this sounds like fun to you, Email us TODAY for more info

  • PET PROMO - ADMINISTRATIVE

Help PPAH from the comfort of your own home and in your pjs if you like.  We’re looking for volunteers to help draft pet bios and update pet profiles on search sites such as Petfinder and social media sites such as Twitter and Instagram.  This person may also post similar content to our FB page in order to generate interest in adoptable pets as well as search for and post interesting/entertaining/relevant articles to FB. If this is something you would enjoy, please let us know!

  • FOSTER

Prepare a pet for their forever home by first welcoming them into yours.  Provide a caring, loving, and secure environment for homeless cat(s) or dog(s) until they are matched and adopted into a qualifying home.  We are always in need of foster homes due to the overwhelming number of homeless cats and dogs.

  • SPECIAL EVENTS

We need assistance at special events throughout the year such as adoption events at Petsmart, Petco, and local businesses, Photos with Santa, and various pet expos.  We also need assistance preparing for special events by posting flyers, procuring raffle and silent auction prizes, selling raffle tickets, etc.

  • FUNDRAISING

If you are feeling especially creative and motivated, we are in need of volunteers to identify and organize promotions, benefits, or fundraisers; be creative.

  • TRANSPORT

Get our foster pets from point A to point B. Transport is often needed from CACC to a foster home or the vet. Or to and from events. Our events and foster homes are mainly in the near north and northwest side of Chicago and the north and northwest suburbs.

  • PHOTOGRAPHY

Help us get our pets noticed on social media and in the news. Take pictures of our rescued cats and dogs and edit them to be used in print and web promotion and for adoption purposes.

Information on Fostering

Fostering is a great opportunity for someone who has an extra room in their home or who is unable to have a permanent companion animal of their own.  If you are not in a position to take on the long-term responsibility of adopting a cat or dog, but are interested in sharing your home and love with a homeless pet in the short term, you can absolutely become a foster parent for PPAH.  To do so, please complete and submit the foster application.

After speaking with our foster coordinator and determining that fostering for PPAH is indeed right for you, you will get matched with a pet in need.  PPAH can provide all necessary food and supplies.  If you are in a position to provide the food and supplies, we welcome that donation.  PPAH coordinates and pays for all vetting for the pets in our care.  We do ask that our foster homes provide transport as needed to ensure that their foster pet gets all of the preventative and continuing care that they need to be healthy and adoptable.

We also ask that foster parents provide weekly photo and short text updates.  Lastly, to most effectively locate their forever home, we ask our fosters parents to either bring their foster pets or make them available for transporters to take them to adoption events.

What People Say about PPAH

Amazing organization!

I have adopted numerous cats from this amazing organization and I have to say that they are dedicated heart and soul.  They go beyond the works of any other shelter I’ve seen, rescuing animals, including pregnant cats, and saving mothers and kittens alike.  These people do the grunt work and adopting from them provides you an endless love from abandoned and shelter animals that would not otherwise have had a chance.  I cannot fully express how special these people are, but let me say this:  If Mother Theresa came back to this world, she’d be volunteering with these dedicated animal lovers.  Selfless beyond the pale. Please consider adopting one of their rescues, because they truly assist those cats who are the most needy.  And if you can’t adopt, consider a small donation to assist in their work.

The perfect choice!

Precious Pets is a great organization.  We have adopted two wonderful kittens (Omar and Khalessi) that we love very much.  Both cats were vaccinated and fixed when we got them. Aurora is so helpful and a very nice lady.  She always called the day after we brought a kitten home to make sure there was a smooth transition.  She also de-wormed both our kittens. If you are in the market for a cat or kitten, this organization is the perfect choice.

Found my best friend!

I found the new love of my life here, and my application was processed with all haste. I expected to wait much longer to bring my new little girl home, and I’m so happy to have her! They are very thorough in their pre-adoption care and their policies align with my own ideals, particularly regarding the no declaw policy. River (formerly Mahjong) and I thank you with all our hearts for bringing us together!

Worth the wait!

I am so happy that me and my fiancé found this organization. Aurora is a wonderful person to deal with, I can’t believe how much she gets done on her own. Our kitties are perfect and I couldn’t be happier with the entire process of the adoption. Definitely worth the wait.

Adopt Here!

This place is run by all volunteers.  They do this because they love cats.  I adopted my cat over a year ago and have loved every minute of her since.  I will make a donation to PPAH every year of my life in my cat’s name.  If you want a cat go here.  There is such a need for homes.
